70 Years Ago—Oct. 14, 1940: Movie premiere of The Westerner, starring Gary Cooper.

  1. Well, I just have to comment on this post because I am totally crazy about Gary Cooper. I am a classic movie addict, and Gary Cooper and William Holden are my all-time faves. I've seen probably about three dozen of Coop's movies, including this one. It's lots of fun. (I'd love to see more of his movies, but given that I live in the 2000's instead of my beloved 1940's, it's not easy to track some of them down.)

  3. This was also the day the U.S. had it's highest lost of B17's on the second mission to dreaded Schweinfurt. Around 600 air-crewmen were KIA & POW. October 14, 1943, aka Black Thursday.
