Welcome, Lisa Tawn Bergren!
I’m so excited to introduce multi-published author (and I do mean multi) Lisa Tawn Bergren. Not only is she the mastermind of the Christian Fiction Scavenger Hunt, but she shares my love for travel and history.
Lisa T. Bergren is an award-winning, best-selling writer of over forty books in many genres, from children's picture books to adult nonfiction. But her happy place is writing novels. You can find her on the web at LisaBergren.com, Facebook.com/LisaTawnBergren, and Twitter.
Lisa’s newest novel, Glittering Promises, released October 1. Her popular Grand Tour series concludes as Cora Kensington journeys farther into Italy, wrestles with a terrible ultimatum from her father, and comes to terms with the Father who will never fail her.
America’s newest heiress must decide if her potential fortune is rationale enough to give up her freedom and all that God is leading her toward. And when her newly-discovered siblings are threatened with ruin, her quandary deepens. Then as Cora nears Rome, more journalists are track the news story of the decade—“Copper Cora,” the rags-to-riches girl—and want to know more about her family and the men vying for her attention. Meanwhile, a charming Italian countess decides that if Cora isn’t going to claim Will’s heart, she might just try...
Exclusive from Lisa Tawn Bergren!
Since my current Wings of the Nightingale series is set in Italy, I was thrilled to see the Italian connection with Lisa’s book and article. Make sure to read all the way to the end to see how you can win a “Taste of Italy” CD, with authentic Italian music and Italian recipes from Gourmet magazine!
Top 10 Places to See in Rome…with Some Advice on Particulars
![]() |
| At the Borghese Gardens |
1) The Forum/Palatine Hill: Go with a good guide and a picture book showing how it once was, or it will make no sense.
![]() |
| Piazza Navona |
2) The Pantheon: Especially eerie-cool at night, when you can spot the moon through the giant oculus in the ceiling.
3) The Colosseum: Book a tour (we went with Dark Tours) that includes the hypogeum (the “basement,” not open to the general public). Gives you extra perspective to the grand, old structure to walk where the gladiators walked.
4) Galleria Borghese & the Borghese Gardens: Rent a cute little cart to ride around the vast gardens—romantic for couples or a fun respite for kids!
5) The Sistine Chapel: Gaze upon it with the perspective that it was painted by many (not just Michelangelo) and was there to undergird papal authority.
6) Piazza Navona: Grab a gelato after dinner and stroll along the best public square in Rome. Lined with palaces and studded with some of the loveliest fountains in the city, you can watch street performers and artists at their work.
![]() |
| At the top of the Vittorio Emanuel Monument |
8) The Appian Way on a Sunday (Via Appia Antica): It’s closed to all traffic besides tour buses, and you can rent bikes and take a leisurely ride.
9) Trevi Fountain: Go very early in the morning or very late at night to avoid the obnoxious masses of people, and a higher population of pickpockets. With your back to the fountain, toss a coin with your right hand, over your left shoulder, if you want to return to the Eternal City (Or keep your money for more gelato. You'll need it.
10) Vittorio Emmanuel Monument: Ignore what’s down below; pay the 7 Euros to ride to the top and take in one of the best views of the city; it lends great perspective on how vast the city is, where the walls are, etc.
You can purchase Lisa Tawn Bergren’s novel, Glittering Promises, at Amazon, Barnes & Noble, ChristianBook.com, or at your local bookstore.
THE SCAVENGER HUNT SKINNY:
Before you go, write down STOP #25 clue: others!
This is the final stop in the scavenger hunt! Whether or not you’ve made the complete circuit, your next stop is Lisa Bergren’s site! If you’ve finished, fill out the Rafflecopter form at stop #26 at Lisa Bergren’s site to be in the running for all the big prizes! If you’re just joining in, you’ll find stop #1 on Lisa’s site also!

Is the Trevi Fountain the one featured in the cute movie with Josh Duhamel? I can't even decide which one of these sites I'd like to see most. I just want to get to Europe some day!
ReplyDeleteniki716 [at]gmail[dot]com
And I'm a new subscriber! Thanks for participating in the scavenger hunt!
DeleteEmma says the Trevi is in that movie!
DeleteNiki - I'm afraid I don't know the movie - anyone able to help me out? It's a gorgeous fountain - but Lisa's right about the crowds - it's hard to get close, and all the pictures I took are full of tourists :) And thanks for subscribing to my newsletter!
ReplyDeleteThe Movie is When In Rome. I love that movie, so romantic. I would love to visit the fountain and the river walk. I'm participating in the Scavenger Hunt and am a subscriber.

DeleteI would love to see the Forum. I am taking an Ancient Roman History course right now and would love to see where my books are talking about.
ReplyDeleteKatharine.baird2@gmail.com
The Forum is fascinating, but I agree with Lisa about needing a good guidebook - nothing is labeled, and you can easily get confused. Especially when it's hot and your teenage children want to eat :) Not that I have experience with that or anything....
DeleteI would go to both the Catacomb's and along the Apian Way. Gosh, I'd have to go to all but I have studied Christian History with my kids and so want to go and see! Thank you for the pictures . . . makes me want to do a fundraiser for a trip to Italy! I am a new subscriber to your newsletter and my email is chris_davebures@bellsouth.net. DeleteI got to go to Rome once, but I was only there 2 days :(. I loved the Colosseum! Unfortunately I went to the Trevi Fountain at the most crowded part of the day and were swamped by people wanted us to pay them to take a picture for us (with our own camera). It totally ruined the experience!
ReplyDeleteWe were there for only 2 days too. And the Trevi was swamped when we were there too.
DeleteI subscribe to you email
ReplyDeleteThank you, Tammy!
DeleteSorry if this is a duplicate - I'm not sure if my comment went through? My family lived in Italy for several years when I was a child but the closest we ever got to Rome was changing planes. I would enjoy visiting the Piazza Navona. kawaii[dot]katers[at]gmail[dot]com
ReplyDeleteIsn't that funny! My family lives in the San Francisco area, and my kids are always whining because we've never taken them to Fisherman's Wharf or Alcatraz :) But we did take them to Rome.

DeleteI have been to the Trevi Fountain, walked around the outside of the Colosseum because it was closed when we got there ( I was disappointed about that), Sistine Chapel and around the Vatican. I didn't have enough money to eat all the gelato I wanted but my favorite of the ones I tried was pistachio! After eating gelato American ice cream lost it's taste to me and it was a LOOOONG time before I started eating it again. Gelato just doesn't compare and I would rather have that than American ice cream!!! If I go back to Italy, I want to see the inside of the Colosseum and the basement.
ReplyDeletesweetgooberpeas[at]gmail[dot]com
I am a new newsletter subscriber. Thank your for adding a bonus for us to attempt and win!
Mmmm...gelato....
DeleteWe had problems seeing some sites in Rome too - the Colosseum/Forum/Palatine Hill sites were closed for a strike (!) - so we did the Vatican that day instead - and did the other sites the next day. You definitely have to be flexible when sight-seeing in Italy :)
I would love to see any part of Italy, but probably the Piazza Navona would be the place I'd go first! I am a new subscriber, but not new to your books. I enjoy them immensely and have introduced my oldest daughter to them. Your writing is superb! So good, in fact, that I find myself getting frustrated with some of the characters because they don't do what I think they ought (Melly from With Every Letter, in particular she was so insecure!) and realize that the reason I am so concerned with them is that you have made them so real that I cannot help but care! I do love them! Thank you for writing such great stories!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Claudia! I'm so glad you enjoyed the books - and the characters :)

DeleteThere are two sites I would most like to see, the first being the Sistine Chapel for it's total beauty and the second being the Colosseum. I have seen a special on the hypogeum and the building itself is a marvel. There is another building I would like to visit that you do not mention and that is the Baths of Diocletian. Any kind of history interests me, and when I can find a book to read that includes factual history and fiction, I am a happy reader.

DeleteLISA: Thanks for the tips on Italy sight-seeing, although my nephew was stationed there as an army chaplain several years ago - I have never been there, & would love to see all the places you mentioned, but the Sistine Chapel would probably be at the top of my list! Hi Bonnie! I've been enjoying chatting with you on Facebook. I'm glad you found me - and I hope you enjoy the books!
DeleteHaving never been to Italy, I would love to visit all the places you have mentioned. In Rome, the Sistine chapel stands out, since I did a study on Michelangelo in high school many years ago. I very much want to visit Pompey.
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for organizing this scavenger hunt. It is such fun to meet new authors and learn more about the ones I have already gotten to know a little.
Would love the CD - my husband is an Executive Chef and would love the recipes...lol and I am sure we would all enjoy the music.
bettimace[at]gmail[dot]com
Betti - I did a paper on Michelangelo too - so seeing the Sistine (and the Pieta) fulfilled a longtime dream for me. And Pompeii is fascinating.
DeleteI think the one place I would really like to see would be the Sistine chapel, just to look up in wonder and think about what we are being shown :)

ReplyDeleteI would love to visit the Sistine Chapel! In high school it seems my favorite subject to write a paper on was all the different artists. Now it would be wonderful to see the whole thing together and not as individual sections in a book! I am a new subscriber and have "Liked" you on FB too. I look forward to reading your books.

I'm sure each of those places would be wonderful, but if I had the opportunity to choose, I would probably pick either the Sistine Chapel or the Catacombs. Those would both be absolutely incredible experiences!
