70 Years Ago—Jan. 23,
1944: Australians secure
Shaggy Ridge in Finisterre Mountains, New Guinea, securing Huon Peninsula. Off the Anzio landing beaches,
the Luftwaffe sinks British destroyer HMS Janus,
159 killed.
I always forget the Australians were in the war. LOL This post reminded me of that WW2 movie set in Australia. I remember liking it, but I can't remember what it was called! Help? Or maybe it was a mini-series...?
How funny :) The Aussies fought really hard - first in North Africa under Montgomery, and then, after Pearl Harbor, they fought throughout the Southwest Pacific. As for the movie...there was that Hugh Jackman/Nicole Kidman movie called "Australia." I'm blanking on others.
