Today in World War II History

70 Years Ago—Oct. 28, 1942: Rommel forms up for counterattack at El Alamein, which is broken up by Allied air attack. Actor Clark Gable commissioned as a second lieutenant in US Army Air Forces after completing Officer Candidate School.

    An interesting tidbit of history you may enjoy. My Papa offered me one of Clark's Gable's rifles for one of my three sons. Papa didn't mention who the one rifle belonged to when he offered three of them. I turned down his offer, as I was anti-guns back some thirty-plus years ago, not now.
    (My Uncle Alvin worked at MGM studios in Hollywood back in the day and Clark Gable had given him the rifle as a thank you.)
    Life is full of surprises.
