best actor—Paul Lukas in Watch on the
Rhine; best actress—Jennifer Jones in Song
of Bernadette; best director—Michael Curtiz for Casablanca.
"Casablanca" is one of my top-3 all-time favorite movies, and I caught it on the "big screen" of my city's historic (1927) theatre back in 2012. It was a very surreal experience seeing that beloved film in that kind of environment.
Patti - how fun! My husband and I also saw "Casablanca" in our town's 1928 theater! I had the same response you did. I loved seeing that classic movie in the same theater people where people watched it in the 1940s!
