70 Years Ago—Feb. 24, 1942: “Battle of Los Angeles”: In LA, false reports of enemy planes lead to firing of anti-aircraft guns during night. In California, 600 German & Italian enemy aliens evacuated from Pittsburg and Antioch to nearby Oakley and Brentwood. Japanese take Timor.
