Today in World War II History

70 Years Ago—July 26, 1942: British begin rationing chocolate and candy. Maj. Gen. Millard Harmon takes command of US Army Forces in South Pacific Area, to be based at Noumea, New Caledonia.

  1. I think I would have been siding with all the kiddies...What a sad day!!
    In short pants at the time (he was 3) hubby remembers only too well the rationing at home! Dad was a miner, hubby had many siblings,and times were tough...
    A GI introduced him to a Hershey bar later in the war producing a big toothy grin however!
