My latest novel, On Distant Shores, is scheduled to release August 1! However, many on-line retailers have already shipped, and the book is on the shelves at many stores, including my local store, Graceland Christian Bookstore in Pittsburg CA!
To celebrate, I'm holding a giveaway! To go with the "Shores" theme, leave a comment mentioning your favorite vacation spot - or dream vacation spot - and I'll enter you to win your choice of either On Distant Shores (which I can mail to you now) or In Perfect Time, the third book in the Wings of the Nightingale series (available August 2014).
Here's the blurb for On Distant Shores:
Lt. Georgiana Taylor
has everything she could want. A boyfriend back home, a loving family, and a
challenging job as a flight nurse. But in July 1943, Georgie’s cozy life gets
more complicated when she meets pharmacist Sgt. John Hutchinson. Hutch resents the
lack of respect he gets as a noncommissioned serviceman and hates how the war
keeps him from his fiancée. While Georgie and Hutch share a love of the starry
night skies over Sicily, their lives back home are falling apart. Can they
weather the hurt and betrayal? Or will the pressures of war destroy the fragile
connection they’ve made?
Here's a "shore" photo...the beach at Anzio, Italy, which we visited in July 2011. In On Distant Shores, Hutch serves on this beachhead under heavy bombardment. Today it's a vacation playground, as it should be.
To enter the giveaway, leave a comment about your favorite vacation spot, along with your email address in the following format: sarah [at] sarahsundin [dot] com. US and Canada only, please. No purchase necessary, void where prohibited by law, etc, etc. I'll post the winner on Wednesday, July 31, 2013.
My favorite vacation was to Willington, NC.......had soo much fun with the family.....love to win a paperback copy of Sarah Sundin's book....'On Distant Shores'....babyruthmac16ATyahoo.com
ReplyDeleteI've never been there! Sounds wonderful.
DeleteI think my favorite vacation has been my honeymoon on the island of Cozumel! The first time my husband and I were able to spend 24 hours just together. Though our recent 2.5 trip to Gettysburg is a close second--yes, to a tropical vacation! It was lovely, relaxing, captured our history buff hearts. So cool to get to learn so much. We would love to go back!
DeleteI would love a copy of On Distant Shores. I've been eagerly awaiting it's arrival!!!!
I love the contrast of the tropical and the historical :)
DeleteWhat's your email for the entry?
As a child my family used to go to Cape May NJ a lot of summers. We rented a cottage and spent a lot of time on the beach. Loved it then and love it now, though we haven't been to the beach for more than a year because of my right leg amputation due to cancer. I have lots of reading time now and would love to win a copy of "On Distant Shores!" Will settle for "In Perfect Time" as well. Thanks for doing this, Sarah.
DeleteHi Meg! I've heard great things about Cape May. Praying for you as you adjust to the amputation!
DeleteMy dream vacation is really simple! I would love to go and stay for a weekend at a bed and breakfast in a small town with shops to walk around to, money to go to lunch at cafes, and lots of my TBR books!
ReplyDeleteMy other dream would be to go on a mission trip to Africa or Russia and spend time working with health care workers there! Either one....martha(at)clink(dot)com
Great dreams, Martha! One so peaceful...the other so altruistic :)
DeleteMy favorite vacation spot is Maui! It was so laid back and relaxing, not to mention BEAUTIFUL!!!
ReplyDeleteapephilippi(at)gmail(dot)com
Ooh! Love Maui! My family is particularly fond of the Big Island too. And we honeymooned on Kauai...
DeleteMy dream vacation was made reality 3 years ago as my husband & I took a two week trip to Italy. My husband has been in the ministry for 30+ years and this was the first time ever he has taken two Sunday's off in a row! It was amazing and God is so good to us! Just bought On Distant Shores yesterday, but would love In Perfect Time!
ReplyDeleteBetsy
betsybumpus@hotmail.com
I loved Italy - you'll see the results of that vacation/research trip in "On Distant Shores" - and in "In Perfect Time."
DeleteWonderful books - can't wait for Perfect Time - I read fast .LOL
ReplyDeleteThank you for the contest
You do! I wish I wrote that fast :)I'm still putting the final polish on Roger and Kay's story.
DeleteAnd your email...?
DeleteMy favorite vacation spot is the beach! I don't care where just ocean waves and good book!!
ReplyDeletescrogger30[at]yahoo(dot)com
Very relaxing! That's what we did at Anzio :) It did feel weird to have such a blissfully relaxing day on a former battlefield!
DeleteI would love to visit a castle in Ireland...
ReplyDeleteAlso, I love escaping to the Outer Banks!
Many thanks, Cindi
jchoppes[at]hotmail[dot]com
I love castles! I haven't been to Ireland, though - or the Outer Banks. Someday :)
DeleteI met my husband when he was stationed at Pearl Harbor. We got married on the north shore of Oahu and that is my most longed-for and favorite vacation spot.
ReplyDeleteElizabeth [at] mnquarles4[at]comcast[dot]net
I'm very fond of Hawaii - some of our all-time favorite vacations!
DeleteI think my favorite places to vacation are quiet and peaceful. I would love going back to the Adirondacks and renting a cabin off the beaten path, away from everyone else. I love the solitude. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you for offering us the opportunity to win!
Mandy
mandycreasy[at]yahoo[dot]com
Ah, solitude...I love mountain cabins. Someday I'll have to go to the Adirondacks!
DeleteMy favorite vacation spot (so far) is Myrtle Beach, SC, especially in the winter, when it's so cold here in the Northeast. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteVirginia
bunnfixer[at}juno[dot]com
A lot of votes for the Carolinas :) Must be popular back east! I'll have to visit someday!
DeleteEasy choice: A Literary tour of England, Scotland, and Wales...visiting all the gorgeous places like Beatrix Potter's Lake District (and thus Hilltop Farm) and Jane Austen's House...the real Hundred Acre Wood, Oxford and Cambridge... :)
ReplyDeleteRachel heirloomrosebud(at)gmail(dot)com
Well, of course, Rachel! So you. My mom insisted on visiting Hilltop on a UK jaunt, which my father very patiently put up with. It was quite an off-the-road excursion, hard to find (this was before GPS), but Mom adored it.
DeleteI'm very fond of Cambridge! Just gorgeous.
MY favorite vacation spot is nagshead N.C
ReplyDeleteMia
jazzymom1220[at]gmail[dot]com
Another NC vote! Well, this California girl must be missing out on something good!
DeleteMy favorite spot is Gatlinburg, TN. Nothing like the mountains!
ReplyDeletecampbellamyd at gmail dot com
I love mountains too! My family used to camp in the Sierra Nevadas...Yosemite, Sequoia National Park.
DeleteI have always wanted to go to France. I have recently decided that if I ever do get there, I want to go to Vincennes, France, just outside of Paris. I grew up in Vincennes, IN and lots of French historical influence. I would love to see my hometown's namesake.
ReplyDeleteTina
purplebugster[at]yahoo[dot]com
I love France! That would be fun to visit someplace with a personal connection like that!
DeleteMy favorite vacation spot is Alaska. I've spent the past three summers there, and it's just so beautiful and majestic. The only bad thing is the mosquitoes! Just bring lots of deet and afterbite :)
ReplyDeleteThanks for the giveaway!
nightowlreading[at]gmail[dot]com
It doesn't seem fair that so many lovely locations are mosquito-infested, does it?
DeleteMy favorite spot is with my family. Doesn't have to be far away & gorgeous, just spending time with them. patriciaann1951[at]yahoo[dot]com
ReplyDeleteHow sweet, Pat! Love it.
DeleteMy favorite vacation was a trip we took with our children(age 10 and 12) to visit missionaries in S.E. Asia. It was an exhausting trip but memories still linger. Even now, at 48 and 50 they remark occasionally about something that happened on that trip. The money we spent to include our children on this trip was well worth the money.
ReplyDeleteWhat a great life experience! And the perfect age - old enough to appreciate it.
DeleteAnd your email for the entry...?
DeleteMy favorite vacation spot is Scotland. Beautiful!
ReplyDeletevassarclan[at]Juno[dot]com
Oh, Scotland! Does my half-Scottish heart good to hear that (I'm a Stewart by birth). We had such a nice trip to Edinburgh and environs a few years ago.
DeleteMy favorite vacation spot is Virginia, and my dream vacation would be to go to Ireland.
ReplyDeleteThose sound wonderful! I've been to England and Scotland - but not Ireland.
DeleteWhat's your email?
My favorite vacation spot is to be with my husband and daughter at home, not having to hurry off in different directions with busy schedules!
ReplyDeleteOh, I know! Just a week without craziness would FEEL like vacation!!
DeleteWhat's your email?
Would love to visit the Isle of Arran in Scotland.
ReplyDeleteI named one of my main characters for it!
Thanks for this opportunity to win and read one of your great WWII novels.
I'd choose On Distant Shores.

Hi Lois! Any place in Scotland sounds good to me :)
DeleteYay, Sarah!!! Congrats on your new release! My favorite vacation spot is Lancaster, PA. It's so beautiful and peaceful there!
ReplyDeleteNo need to enter me for On Distant Shores, because I just bought a copy off of Amazon and it's on its way. ;)
Thanks for the great giveaway! God bless! =)
Hi Elyssa! I'll enter you for a copy of In Perfect Time when it comes out next year.

I would love to go to Mackinac Island, or Hawaii!
ReplyDeleteI loved the first book in this series and can't wait to read the rest!!! My choice of a winning book is On Distant Shores, since I only have the 1st! :)

DeleteOops, I forgot my e-mail address!
ReplyDeletelubell1106(at)gmail(dot)com
Love the chance to win a free book; thanks! My favorite vacation spot is Cape May, NJ, but my dream vacation is a one week all expenses paid trip with my kids to Disney. It would be so much fun, for me and for them. If I win, I would like to receive On Distant Shores. My e-mail address is vjameson1(at)netzero(dot)net.
ReplyDeleteHaving grown up in SoCal, I was blessed to be half an hour from Disneyland. It used to be so (relatively) cheap that as teenagers, we could just say, "Who feels like going to Disneyland" and we'd just go! Now you practically have to take out a 2nd mortgage!
DeleteOch Sarah, on the shelves already? For a moment I felt deflated but than, anticipation is the best part of any good thing in life, right?
ReplyDelete'In Perfect Time would be', well, just perfect! So pretty please, put my name in the hat? Many thanks Dear!
I almost forgot, to qualify I must reveal my favourite vacation spot...My, we have been blog trotters Sarah...Too many to chose from but definitively one of the best, Padstow (Cornwall).
Blessings,
Cornwall sounds simply smashing!
DeleteI went to Duck, NC on the Outer Banks in my sixteenth summer, and I have wanted to go back to its cool, deep blue waters ever since! My family always goes to Oak Island, but that beach faces south - so the waves slant into the sand in a brown wash, often filled with too much seaweed. It's familiar, but not my favorite. Duck and Corolla at the Outer Banks are my favorites!
ReplyDeleteAbby myheartrejoices1 (at) gmail (dot) com
I'm beginning to feel a bit deprived, only having driven through the Carolinas. Cool, deep blue waters sound lovely!
DeleteMy dream vacation would be to tour all around Europe- see the mountains in Switzerland, the Eiffel Tower, Big Ben, a whole lot of castles, etc- with my best friend and sister. One day I will :)I absolutely LOVED the Wings of Glory series, and so I can't wait to read this series!
ReplyDeletealicia[dot]blaszczyk[at]gmail[dot]com
That's a truly wonderful vacation! I've been blessed to see those sights - and adored them!
DeleteI went to Greece -Athens ,Thessaloniki but the most beautiful beach I went it was in Island Kos ..I really hope one day I will go back and see it again .
ReplyDeleteJoanna Czarnecka
asia410410@yahoo.com
Ooh, Greece! We saw Greek temples in Italy (Paestum), and I was enthralled.
DeleteMy favorite vacation spot is Sanibel Island! Such a beautiful place with lots of untouched nature!! It's very relaxing! I would love to travel to Italy and see Rome and Pompeii and I would to go to France and see Versailles Palace! I would also love to go to Papua New Guinea to try and find where my grandfather was stationed during WW2.
ReplyDeleteKelly Borchelt
creativecraz0[at]yahoo[dot]com
I'd never heard of Sanibel - had to Google it - but it looks gorgeous. We loved Italy, and my husband took about 200 pictures at Pompeii (no kidding!) His photo is on the cover of On Distant Shores :)
DeleteUm, the bottom photo that is. Just to be clear there...
DeleteMy favourite past vacation was Disney World/Sanibel Island - my husband and I went there for our 8th anniversary in 2010. I'd love to go back there, or back to Hawaii, where we went for our honeymoon. And I have a whole wish list of places to see on other continents, but I'm dreaming of our next big holiday, which will hopefully be a road trip along the California coast, from San Diego to San Francisco. In three or four years, when I'm done at uni... My top requirement for a 'proper' holiday is that there be a shore of some sort, preferably saltwater! :)
ReplyDeletemichelleheumann(at)gmail(dot)com
Great vacations! We enjoyed Disney World and adore Hawaii! I highly recommend the Cali road trip. Hwy 1, especially between Santa Barbara and Monterey is absolutely gorgeous. Plan several days for that trip!
DeleteI had no idea how popular the Carolinas were for vacation spots! Californians rarely venture past California, which is sad.
ReplyDeleteI would love to spend time at beautiful
ReplyDeleteLake Jackson with the fantastic Teton Mountains in the backgroud. Prettiest place I've ever seen. Sarah, I would love to win this book to go with the first one I already have. Please enter my name.
MAXIE mac262(at)me(dot)com
That sounds lovely! I love the mountains.
DeleteA dream vacation would take me to England. I've always wanted to walk on the moors!
ReplyDeleteI loved your first book in this series (and also your previous series) so would love to win a copy of On Distant Shores. I enjoy learning more about history by reading good fiction.
Thanks for the giveaway to celebrate this new release.

A fellow Anglophile :) I don't think I could ever get my fill!
DeleteLast year we vacationed on the Oregon Coast, near Tillamook. One of the things I like best about being on the ocean is watching the sun go down as the waves come in. If I win, I want the 3rd book.
ReplyDeleteWe were just in Oregon last week...though we didn't get to the coast. I do love a sunset over the ocean - nothing like it!
DeleteMy favorite vacation was when we bought a used RV Class A motor home. It was small, not fancy but we sure have enjoyed it. First big trip was from Alabama to Ca. Yosemite Natl Park. We stopped at the Grand Canyon, Salt Lake City, Okl memorial of the bombing. Later we went to PA, NC, VA, WV and visited VA Beach, Lancaster, PA, friends and just had a wonderful time. Would like to go to Yellowstone next.
ReplyDeleteSarah, I've ordered you new book, so if my name is drawn I would love the one coming out next year.
That sounds like an amazing trip!!
DeleteBali, Indonesia. We stayed at a hotel right on the water with an infinity pool.
ReplyDeleteHi Kathy! That sounds divine! I drool over pictures of infinity pools.

DeleteMy favorite vacation spot is Boston, MA. We saw the USS Constitution and the navy yard there and learned about its history during WWII. mysterylover93@yahoo.com.
ReplyDeleteGabrielle
I love Boston too! We're going there next summer...for research :)
DeleteWould love to win In Perfect Time as Amazon delivered my copy On Distant Shores earlier this week. My favorite beachy vacation spot is Tybee Island, Georgia, close to Savannah. I have so many happy memories of vacations that my late husband and I took to that area over our 17 year marriage. His last wish was that he could walk on the beach just one last time but it was never possible to make that wish come true. Tybee Island it is!
ReplyDeleteMemories make the best vacation spots. I hope you get the chance to return someday.
Delete...and your email?
DeleteMy dream vacation would be to head north , I'm in PA, to Maine or New Hampshire! Beautiful beaches and coastlines that I would love to see. My husband and I are also hoping to one day travel to see the Grand Canyon as well as Alaska!

My favorite vacation spot is Nuevo Vallarta, MX. It is beautiful and the culture of the people is amazing! The Sierra Madre mountains are absolutely stunning surrounding Banderas Bay!
ReplyDeleteMountains and ocean together with good people? Sounds like a winner!
DeleteYour email for the entry...?
I would love to someday vacation in Hawaii. I hear they have nice shores (beaches) there! ;-) If you pick me, I would love "On Distant Shores"! Thanks, Cathy Doman, domanca@hotmail.com
ReplyDeleteHi Cathy! Yes, Hawaii has lovely shores :) I'm fond of the Big Island's black sand beach - and the sea turtles!
DeleteMy favorite vacation spot is anywhere the cruise ship is docked :) My hubby and I love cruises and you can see so may different places on them! I would want to get a copy of the next book, because my copy of "on distant shores" arrived in the mail on Tuesday, and I am loving it :) veronicalynnhill (at) gmail (dot) com.
ReplyDeleteI still have to take a cruise someday! I do like the idea of dropping in at a bunch of ports!
DeleteI'm glad you're enjoying Hutch and Georgie's story!
My dream vacation would be anywhere in England. I'm not exactly sure why, but I've always wanted to go there. It might be because my parents lived there for a year or two before I was born, so I've grown up hearing about their adventures there and in other parts of Europe. It seems like such a beautiful place!
ReplyDeletesereinalovesvintage{at}gmail{dot}com
I know how you feel! England was at the absolute top of my dream vacations. I went for the first time in 2002 - and it's still at the top of the list. It is beautiful, and so historic.
DeleteMy favorite vacation spot is the Outerbanks of North Carolina.
ReplyDeleteWilani Wahl wwchildren@gmail.com
I think if I were conducting a poll for most popular vacation spot, the Carolinas would win. This California girl had no idea...
DeletePanama City Beach Fl Tyndal Air Force Base
ReplyDeleteThis is where my Husband (then my boyfriend) was stationed at when we first meet, said our first I Love you on the beach at sunset and where we spend a few days after we was married, before he left for Okinawa Japan. So many memories was made at Panama City Beach, and how I would love to go back here and spend some time with my husband of 15 years.
Once an Air Force Wife always an Air Force wife Stella
Those courtship places always hold special memories!
ReplyDeleteI have GOT to get a Sarah Sundin book. All of them that I have heard of, sound SO good!
ReplyDeleteMy favorite vacation spot would be Glacier National Park, Montana. My husband, kids and I went there the year of our 10th wedding anniversary (and for family vacation). I LOVED it!! It's so beautiful there!!
ladettek[at]gmail[dot]com
We are a poor family and I absolutely love the beach, so our yearly vacations are taken in our home state of Alabama. We camp out for a few days at Gulf State Park and spend as much time at the beach as we can
ReplyDeleteOh, I don't think I can even name a favorite! I have visited many wonderful places, but have yet to visit Alaska or Hawaii, and I know they are both beautiful! I look forward to reading On Distant Shores!
ReplyDeletetexaggs2000 at gmail dot com
In the U.S., Naples, Florida. It has the best shelling. Overseas, a river cruise in Germany. Doesn't matter which river. Mosel, Rhine, Danube, Elbe. I've already cruised the Rhine and Mosel. All those castles. Absolutely gorgeous.
ReplyDeletetlw131 [at] gmail [dot] com
Well, I've not been on vacation anywhere overseas, yet (it's a dream), so I can only comment about the U.S. :) I love going to the beach and almost any beach will do. I love just sitting there, listening to the waves and watching them. Getting up at sunrise and watching God's paintbrush color the water and sky as the sun comes up is also a favorite activity for me while I'm at the beach.
ReplyDeleteI love your books, by the way! I enjoy reading books set during WWII and yours are the best I've found! I also love that your books always have an aspect of faith in them. :)
Blessings,
Sarah B.

My favorite vacation spot is my aunt and uncle's lake house in north Wisconsin. Since I live next to a highway and an interstate, the silence truly is golden!
ReplyDeleteammeguenther[at]gmail[dot]com
My favorite vacation spot is anywhere there is an ocean -never get tired of listening to the waves, & viewing the beautiful sunrises & sunsets! Thanks for the opportunity to win one of your books!
ReplyDeletebonnieroof60(at)yahoo(dot)com
Finland. We went there when I was in high school, and I'd go back again in an instant. It was beautiful--and gave me a life-long love for saunas!
ReplyDeletesnowboundintheup (at) hotmail (dot) com
My favorite vacation ever was not actually a vacation spot per se. For our fifth anniversary, hubby and I took a steamboat cruise up and back down the Mississippi. The boat was wonderful and the stops in Vicksburg, Natchez and other placed were lovely. And the pace was "southern slow." We WILL do it again. Some day. :::sigh:::
ReplyDeleteJoanne(at)joannesher(dot)com
Being a Michigander born and bred, my favorite shores are the Great Lakes. (Always salt & shark free.) My favorite spot is probably at Brimley, MI, on the shores of Lake Superior.
ReplyDeletetwinwillowsfarm at gmail dot com
My favorite vacation spot is a little island in the pacific northwest where we have a big family cabin right on the ocean! It's gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteheatheranne99 at gmail dot com
My favorite vacation spots include something "historical." My husband and I both enjoy a good museum! But I do enjoy just getting away to a quiet place - away from the buzz of daily living! :)
