1943: German Tenth Army
activated in southern Italy under Gen. Heinrich von Vietinghoff. In the
Mediterranean, all fighter groups and medium bomb groups in US Ninth Air Force
transferred to Twelfth Air Force (Ninth AF to transfer to England).
