70 Years Ago—Sept. 14, 1943: At Salerno, Italy, US repels German counterattack. Meanwhile, British Eighth Army progresses to control “heel” and “toe” of Italy.

  1. Thank you so much , Sarah.This report has personal connotation. My Grandfather , while not at war , worked in the goldmines. He had a good friend , ill call him Uncle Jan. (Unckle as showing respect , not family ) he was in the British Commonweath South African Army , taking the heel of Italt. His recounts were at once exiting and proufoundly sad to listen to.
